Memories of War: Childhood on the Home Front

A 26-Minute Historical Documentary • Premiered at The Curzon Cinema (April 2024)

Recorded as part of Knutsford Town Council’s Memories of World War II initiative—delivered in collaboration with the Knutsford Heritage Centre and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund—Knutsford: Tales of War preserves the lived social history of the 1939–1945 home front.

Through the personal testimonies of residents Enid Leigh, Bill Cowburn, Tony Leadbeater, and Edith Chadwick, the film brings to life childhood memories of the Blitz, the arrival of American troops and General Patton on the Heath, local prisoners of war, and paratroopers training over Tatton Park. Seamless media integration weaves their spoken voices together with rare 1944 colour footage of Knutsford and official Imperial War Museum archives—demonstrating how oral history and archival restoration can preserve a community’s heritage for generations to come.
